The School Health Program serves all the school age, (and some pre-school
age), children in Volusia County in both public and private schools.
Through an agreement with the School Board, a minimum of a Health Support
Technician (position is upgraded to a LPN or RN, depending on the medical
needs of the students in the school), is provided for every public school.
Halifax Hospital provides nurses for several schools in East Volusia as
well as the Teen Parent Programs on the East and West side of Volusia and
the West Volusia Hospital Authority provides nursing and health support
technician services in West Volusia. A cooperative program between the State
Health and Education Departments provide nursing and health support technician
services to DeLand High, Southwestern Middle, and Starke Elementary schools.
To achieve our purpose, we provide vision, hearing, nutritional, and scoliosis
screenings, health assessments, emergency treatment, first aid, specialized,
skilled direct care, home visits, parent, faculty and physician conferences,
educational programs, immunization and record monitoring, and a large dose
of TLC.
We are partners with the community and the school system in creating healthy,
happy, productive future citizens. We know that healthy students are successful
students!
