Health Department Supports Kidcare Health Insurance Enrollment
Underline

DAYTONA BEACH – The Volusia County Health Department will participate in statewide efforts to promote Florida’s KidCare health insurance program by recognizing Florida KidCare Day on Friday, August 1st.

Everyone visiting the health clinics in Daytona Beach, Deland, New Smyrna Beach, and Deltona will be able to pickup Kidcare applications and information. The WIC (Women, Infant and Children) Program clinics will also have applications available for clients.  KidCare representatives will be available to answer questions and assist with the application process.

“Florida KidCare provides quality healthcare benefits to children under the age of 19,” said Dr. Thomas Coleman, director of the Volusia County Health Department, “We are delighted to be able to provide KidCare applications in our clinics for those in need of health insurance for their children.”

Children enrolled in the program have access to preventive care such as regular doctor’s visits, immunizations, dental and vision benefits. Most families pay $20 or less per month. Many pay nothing at all.

“KidCare is for any uninsured child and our goal is to enroll as many children in the program as possible,” said Steven Parris, community health manager of Healthy Communities. “Families are applying everyday because they know there’s nothing like having the peace of mind that you can afford to take your child in for a doctor’s visit during these very tough economic times.”

Since it began in 1998, Florida KidCare has offered working families access to high-quality doctors and preventive care for their children at little to no cost. Florida KidCare currently serves more than 1.4 million children, of which 1.2 million are Children’s Medicaid customers and more than 250,000 are enrolled in MediKids, Children’s Medical Services Network or Healthy Kids.

The Volusia County Health Department also has Kidcare Back to School rulers and pencils available for children coming in for services such as School Shots, School Physicals, Well Visits, and more.
